Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is 2400m (7800ft) above sea level, and it nessles on a ridge between Machu Picchu mountain and the sugar loaf of Huayna Picchu.

Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, this lost city of the Inca's has cause many a debate amounst scholars since it's rediscover. A current theory was that it was a giant observatory since recently it was discovered that at dawn on the winter solstice (21st June) the sun shines through the middle of the window in the Torreon, casting a shadow. This is just one of many buildings built with a view of the heavens.
