This research centre for Giant Pandas was first started in 1990 and opened to the public in 1995.

About 10 to 15 pandas currently reside at the centre. The base covers about 48 hectares, although the breeding ground area is projected to grow to more than 230 hectares over the next few years.

The base also has a number of the lesser pandas located here.
